Resolutions and Goals

Many people make New Year’s Resolutions. And even if you’re not one of those people, most of us set goals for ourselves and our lives. So today, we want to share a few ideas that will give you the greatest chance for success in following through with your 2022 Resolutions and achieving your goals.

1. Know Your WHY

Before beginning anything, it is vital to know your WHY.

  • WHY is your resolution important to you?

  • WHY will achieving this goal improve your life?

Write out your WHY and post it where you will see it every day.

2. Make Sure Your WHY is for YOU

If other people benefit from your resolution, great! Yet, other people’s needs and goals cannot be the foundation or reason for YOUR WHY because when we only do things for other people, it doesn’t lead to lasting happiness.

Your goals must come from inside YOU, and they must be for YOU!

3. Your Resolution Must Be Achievable

It’s an excellent idea to push ourselves farther than we thought we could ever go, to step up and step into our greatness. However – and this is a big however – our goals must actually be achievable.

If your resolution is too far out there and requires an extraordinary shift in the way you live, you will become discouraged and eventually decide not to follow through.

Think big but not so big that it feels impossible.

To make larger goals achievable, smaller, incremental goals that add up to the larger vision are a definite recipe for success. Focus only on what needs to be accomplished during each step of the way to not become overwhelmed.

Steppingstone Goals lead us to success!

4. Your Resolution Must Be Measurable

Be clear and detailed when setting your goal. You cannot measure something vague. How will you know you reached your goal if you don’t know what it is! And what will make you persevere if you’re not sure where you are going?

Be clear and precise!

5. Be Clear and Precise . . . But Not Too Rigid

LASTING change happens gradually. For instance, if you’ve never gone running before or haven’t for years, saying you’ll run a marathon by the end of 2022 is more likely to set you up for failure. Start with a 5K. If you do the 5K and want to continue, then add a 10K, and so on. Resolutions and goals are not set in stone, and they can be changed and modified as you go.

Allow your resolutions and goals to unfold as you do your work.

We wish you all an amazing 2022!
